Here is one of my favorite EVER couples. Before I start styling them, all couples fill out a worksheet of questions: likes, hobbies and all about their story as a couple. As you'll read in Jes' blog, theirs included a super cool Boy's Only tree house and infamous sign...No Girls Allowed {Ryan and Kim}
Anyway, back to Sadie, my mom is a cool lady. She was always was. We'd had a lot of girls nights: once a week we had "Girl's Beauty Night" where we'd mani and pedi and she let us do facials and mask. We even had a theme song (girls beauty NighT, such a delighT...) and then there was the annual Anne Of Green Gables Wonder Works marathon on PBS. But one of the things that she introduced to my sister and I was "old movies". I won't get all lecture-y on how Hollywood has become Hollyweird and I won't whine to you (too much) about how afraid I am for what how media portrays our values and morals nowadays because I know they are just movies (or are they?) BUT if you have not seen many Barbara movies or musicals from this period start to finish then DO. Our Old Movie favorites: My Fair Lady, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, My Hello Dolly, Pollyanna, Breakfast At Tiffany's...They are a beautiful genre from a time many are trying in various ways to get back to. I remember my mom loved the Sadie Sadie Married Lady and explained that she was so proud to become a wife to the man she loved, who inspired her. Even as a little girl it was obvious she didn't feel she deserved him. We are going to skip over the end of the movie where the marriage falls apart. Boo.
This part of the movie where she illustrates what's expected of a married lady, how she dresses and carries herself is the part I want to clip and pin for inspiration for the Sadie Sadie Married Lady tradition I want to start here. Getting married, being wed- it's steeped in tradition. Some say that getting married is a formality, "just a paper" and when the day is over in a blur, that's quite true. It IS what you do, who you become together in that tradition that defines your life forever after, not the day. But the day is critical, it is the ultimate transition from big kid to adult. A day for your families to show you off. A day to stand with your favorite people, your love stories biggest champions and influences and proclaim you choose each other. Sounds more than just a paper to me.
So this tradition will highlight Sadie Style. A little dressy, won over, proud and very very happy to be married to the right guy. No club clothes, hootchie shorts..u get it. Her style says "spoken for. I have a new role now". If you must continue to shop at Forever 21 (no shame, I love it too!) then you class it up a bit, kwim? And remember Sadie IS NOT frumpy. She still has some sauce and sass...snexy as eva, just quietly. She's not trying to sell it- OFF the market ;)
